Calm before the storm

by Chris on October 13th, 2011

Hello! I have been lucky enough to be out of the field for the last three weeks. It has been a welcome break from the full on work that has kept me busy since the start of the year. The main reason for the break has been to keep me sane but was triggered by me booking some time off work for my Birthday back in May / June. My birthday fell in the middle of a job which was going on in remote QLD. I was lucky enough to get flown out while the others remained for another 2 weeks of punishment. The job was a moving loop EM survey where we used ATV’s to pull wire all day. I have a few happy snaps below:

A week or so from now, the fun will begin again. We are booked in to do some helicopter surveys which as busy busy as we need to do a lot on the ground to prepare loops to make sure the helicopter isn’t sitting around idle which costs a bunch of money.

I was looking over the grids from one of our clients – this one looks like a challenge!

From memory, the grid is 4 or so kilometres wide by 6-7 tall. We have to lay wire out around one side of the grid, linking to electrodes that we will install at the top and the bottom. Since we only get 500m on a spool, it is going to be a lot of driving backwards and forwards in rough country. This one is by far the worst though so hopefully we can pick our way through!

Yeah. Will be staying in a mix of places as the grids are spread out. Got some time in McKinlay, Cloncurry a mining and then a field camp.
